The aosu camera status LED is on by default. It blinks or glows to indicate connection status, but once the camera is set up and running there is rarely a reason to keep it lit. The light can attract attention to the camera’s location, become a distraction at night, or simply be unwanted. Fortunately, turning it off takes about thirty seconds in the aosu app and works across the camera lineup including the SolarCam D1 Classic.

How to Turn Off the Status Light

Open the aosu app and tap the camera you want to adjust. In the live view, tap the settings icon in the top right corner to open Device Settings. Scroll down until you find LED Indicator and toggle it off. The status light on the camera will go dark immediately — no restart required.

Step Action
1 Open the aosu app and tap the camera
2 Tap the settings icon in the top right corner of the live view
3 Scroll down to LED Indicator
4 Toggle it off

Note: The LED indicator setting controls the status light only. Turning it off has no effect on recording, motion detection, alerts, or any other camera function. The camera continues to operate exactly as normal.

What the Status Light Colors Mean

If the light needs to be turned back on for troubleshooting purposes, the LED indicator colors indicate the following camera states:

LED Status Meaning
Blue flashing Pairing mode — ready to connect
Blue solid Connected successfully
Red solid Wi-Fi connection failed
Red and blue together Connecting to Wi-Fi

Why Turn It Off?

There are a few good reasons to disable the status light. First, a visible LED at night can reveal the exact position of the camera to anyone casing the property — removing it makes the camera less conspicuous. Second, for cameras installed near a bedroom window or in a hallway, the blinking light can be a nuisance after dark. Third, some users simply prefer a cleaner look without any indicator lights drawing attention to the hardware.

On the other hand, leaving the light on has a deterrent effect — a visible blinking light signals to passersby that the area is monitored. Additionally, for new installs or troubleshooting, the LED is a useful indicator of connection status. The right choice depends on the installation context. All of these articles are written by someone (me) that figured out how to do this stuff the hard way. I have owned and tested dozens of cameras. Manufacturer support varies. There are a few good companies that provide timely answers when you have questions. There are several that sell you the camera and seem to have little interest in post sales support (which leads me to finding out stuff the hard way).
