How to Mount Home Security Cameras to Vinyl Siding

Outdoor camera positioning is often a challenge.  The best position is usually directly on a potion of your siding.  We discuss how to mount a home security camera to vinyl siding.

Drill Some Holes

This is the most obvious way to do it.  Most home security cameras come with a drilling template.  Try to use it because mistakes are costly and sometimes difficult to repair.

Wooden siding is easier to drill.  In fact, if the camera is lightweight, you may not even need to drill.  If the side of the home is masonry, you may need to use a hammer drill.  Not fun, but it’s the only way to get it done.

Aluminum and vinyl siding could be drilled but fortunately there are alternatives to putting holes in the siding.  Always try to avoid this because if the cameras are ever removed, there are ugly holes that are very challenging to fill and often require replacement of the siding that was damaged.  Depending upon the age of the home, it might be difficult to match the color.

Attaching Home Security Cameras to Vinyl Siding Without Drilling

Take a look at the photo that accompanies this article.  This is relatively heavy Tapo C660 kit complete with a solar panel.  It weighs a few pounds.  This is a great camera that is pan and tilt which follows the person as they move.  Coupled with an SD card or a cloud plan, you can refer to video archives.  But this article is about the mount, not the camera.

Most cameras, including this one, come with a mounting bracket that has mounting holes.  Instead of using the included screws, we are going to attach some siding the clips.  This camera uses Vinyl Siding Clips attached to the back of the included mount stock mount.  These inexpensive clips screw into the holes of the mounting bracket then tuck under the siding.

It’s a very secure fit and can be easily removed.  These work with practically any bracket or mount.  Even works with the unusually shaped mount that comes with the Blink Outdoor series.

Another Idea for Mounting a Home Security Camera to Vinyl Siding

Many home security cameras have a standard 1/4″ – 20 threaded hole on it.  This pattern is used on tripods.  Many mounting manufacturers incorporate this pattern in universal mounting accessories.

When you find this mounting pattern, it’s time to consider a Vinyl Siding Hook with Camera Screw.  This is a very clean and simple to use solution.  Simply screw the camera to this clip then insert the clip under the siding.  The screw is on a ball and socket which enables the ability to pivot and swivel the camera.

This solution also work with many solar panels which have become an inexpensive means to charge a battery operated camera without removing it periodically for home charging.  The ability to tilt it towards the sun makes this an even more useful mount.  If using this for a solar panel, try to find a southern facing wall as this will typically provide the best coverage of the sun for a more complete charging experience.
